ZARNAB TUFAIL
the day her mother died

death passes through your body
like a ghostly figure in one of those english movies
the last breath, soul’s way of departing
leaving behind an airless mass
mama says she held her mother in her arms
as she left her body on the charpoi & evaporated
held her lifeless body, my mother lowered her body into the grave
came home and sat down to peel onions.
