ELLIOTT VOORHEES
Thunderstorm Warning
rings through
gravel gardens where
she, silksocked
trails the stacked
stone circles floatsing. There
is sweat pooled in the palms
of her hands that have not seen me
in months, cupped
against
any suitor but
the rain I kissed
before blowing it
across the ocean.
I will reach her
a monsoon. Humid
billows
her woven
thick of a summer
storm. Lightning
strikes
my mouth. Held
years of honeyed adjectives
lay seared
on teeth and tongue
electric.
Can you finally hear?
My sing course the air
before your eyes.
The crackle too verbose
to be sentence
or sonnet let it be
epicsung.
I have been crooning
thunder
for eons.
Dionysus and His Crew
after C.P. Cavafy
Hedýoinos the sweetness
suckles a heart dissolving
on his tongue drooling on
the feral lipped man astride him.
Teleté commands the dance,
hips rolling legs coiling
round her silver post
aloft the wild throngs.
Methé pours herself
across ekphrōnic mouths
spilling in and out
of the blurring lines.
Cómus who swallows
Thyrsus flamed with thirst,
throat bulging, until
his words drip white hot.
Mólpos and Hedymelés
fill the heaving with honey-
breathed song thrumming in time
with the beat of bloody feet.
Dionysus hypsēlophaning
stings gad and damsel
into frenzy, recumbent
soaked in shriek and skin.
Ácratos flutters close,
vision leopard spotted
he falls to bruised knees
and bares himself before the beast.
